The town of Cashiers
Surrounded by the Appalachian Mountains and Nantahala National ForestThe town of Cashiers is located on a plateau, which is surrounded by the Appalachian Mountains and Nantahala National Forest. This fabulous resort is and has always been home for the elite. Settlers from the British Isles first arrived here in the early 1800’s and by the close of the end of the 19th century had numerous summer homes for the richest Southerners. Some events that take place are golfing, fishing, swimming, boating, horseback riding and tennis. The population here is very low; numbers at 196 have kept this secluded area for the enjoyment many V.I.P.’s. There is a wonderful hideaway called the High Hampton Inn & Country Club which has its residence on lakeside property. This family owned business has many recreational facilities on site. There are other activities such as horseshoes and boat rentals and Majestic Heirloom trees provide shade for someone just wanting to sit and reflect. The Inn itself is of rustic design and houses three stories of fine rooms. (There are no elevators). There is also a conference room as well as a room for exercising. Some suites are equipped to handle pets for a fee of $50 and boat rentals of all kinds are available. However this getaway does not provide televisions, phones or air conditioning in the rooms. All the real pleasures of an era past are enjoyed in this desolate paradise.
