Great Smokey Mountains National Park

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park has over 276,000 gorgeous acres in North Carolina and over 244,000 acres in Tennessee. Western North Carolina Cabin Rentals are a great way to experience the natural beauty of North Carolina. Just over 9 million people visit the Great Smoky Mountains every year, often driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway to thoroughly enjoy the breathtaking views, thus making it the most used national park in the country! There are more than 130 species of trees that grow in the park and many unique types of mosses and fungi. There are 200 species of birds alone, not to mention the 60 species of fur-bearing, animals and 38 species of reptiles that make their home in the parks’ fertile landscape. The National Park Service is now starting a reintroduction effort in which they reintroduce native species such as, the Red Wolf and River otter. In recent years, the park service also brought back a herd of the amazing Eastern Elk to its natural habitat in the park. This is a challenge due to limited funding. There are about 1,700 black bears that also make these mountains their home, giving it one of the country’s highest bear densities. They are the most famous inhabitants here in the Smoky Mountains. People staying in the Western North Carolina Cabin Rentals have been known to spot cute black bears while sightseeing in the Great Smoky Mountains! The Great Smoky Mountains National Park has 17 peaks, each of them over 6,000 feet high. Clingmans Dome, the highest peak in the park, is 6,642 feet in elevation. These beautiful peaks can be seen from the Smoky Mountain Cabins just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The 700 miles of fishing steams also add to the parks exquisite splendor of wildlife, making it a fisherman’s paradise.
