French Broad River of Western North Carolina

The French Broad river of Western North Carolina is one of the world’s oldest rivers. Canoeing on the Broad River has existed for a very long time. The Cherokee Indians originally named this rapid flowing body of water “Long Man”. The Native Americans who used the river to travel by canoe for trade and hunting called the many rivers and streams of the French Broad River “Chattering Children”.  The near by river parks of Western North Carolina offer a great way to enjoy the French Broad River.
