Blue Ridge Parkway Attractions
During the month of May right through October when the foliage is at its
best, the wildflowers are in bloom and most of the visitor facilities
are open. You may bring your pets along providing they are confined or
on a leash. You may not have pets in the overnight accommodations. There
are plenty of picnic areas and places for that cool drink of water along
the trails. Hunting is prohibited but there are many stops along the way
to sop and have a tasty morsel. There are also diners and other
accommodations outside of the Parkway but are nearby.
Along the trails
there are many posts to tell you of your distance on the road. It will
take approximately 3-5 days to travel the whole distance of the parkway
if your speed limit is 30 miles per hour. The speed limit is 45 miles
per hour and is strongly enforced.
The mileposts begin at milepost 0 and end at The Smokey Mountains at
milepost 469.
There are audio driving tours if you don’t feel like doing the driving
yourself and just want to sit back and enjoy. The parkway is open all
year round with the exception of icy to snowy weather. Most of the
facilities are closed in November and remain closed until April.
